What We Do

For the past thirty-seven years, The Mankato Area Foundation has been connecting philanthropic interests with community needs. We serve as a leader and resource to enrich the quality of life in Greater Mankato through our various grantmaking programs.

Bi-annually, the Foundation makes grants from its discretionary funds in response to applications based on our five core areas of giving.

Education
A program, seminar or project that educates and enlightens area citizens.

Culture
Projects that enhance the cultural infrastructure of the community.

Recreation
Useful and visible improvements to area parks or recreational activities that impact a large number of people.

Aesthetics
Landscaping, restoration or remodeling of a community site.

Civics
Efforts that produce empowered, active, competent citizens to meet community needs.

In addition, the Mankato Area Foundation distributes grants from designated funds established by donors who either wish to advise the Foundation on grants from their funds or who wish their funds to be distributed to a specific organization or purpose. In this way, donors can ensure that their personal fields of interest are supported.

The Mankato Area Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. All contributions are fully deductible to the extent allowed by federal law.
