  • Grantees are notified of grant awards upon Board approval, approximately two months after the deadline.
A competitive/strong application looks different for each applicant. Some standard factors may include: other funds necessary for the project have been secured, collaboration with other organizations to avoid duplication of services, or your organization is addressing a need identified by the community being served. We prioritize projects where we are not the only funding source.
The application software is always open to accept Letters of Inquiry. The Granting Committee will review requests quarterly.
  1. Please read the eligibility requirements for the grant carefully.

You may apply as often as you wish. However, organizations may only receive one grant from MAF's Community Impact Grants per year. Funds should typically be expended within one year.

We only give grants to non-profit organizations or project committees that are tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.
It is easier to say what will NOT be funded. The Foundation will not consider requests for:
  • Day-to-day operational expenses.
  • Building improvements to a building NOT owned by the nonprofit.
  • Rent and utilities.
  • Debt retirement.
  • Back payroll taxes.
  • Legal fees – including the cost of litigation or settlements.
  • Directors and officers insurance.
  • Bonuses.
We prefer funding operational expenses that strengthen our region, improve lives and/or fuel growth or change.
Start-up or emerging nonprofits can be newly formed or established nonprofits who are addressing emerging needs.
Your organization can receive one grant every 12 months (one per year) if you have submitted all required reports for previous grants awarded.
Multi-year grants may be considered, please contact MAF staff to discuss. Multi-program grants will be reviewed on a project by project basis.
